OrientIA - Intelligent Academic Orientation Platform

Next.jsReactTailwind CSSKnowledge GraphOWLSPARQLAI

An intelligent academic orientation platform designed for Malagasy students, combining educational data, knowledge graphs, semantic relationships, and AI-driven guidance to help students explore suitable academic paths.

Project Overview

OrientIA is an academic orientation platform developed as part of my M2 project at ISPM. The application is designed to help Malagasy students explore academic opportunities and better understand the relationship between their academic profile, available fields of study, institutions, and career-oriented pathways.

The project combines a modern web interface with a structured knowledge base representing Malagasy academic and educational information. It explores how artificial intelligence, semantic technologies, and structured data can support more personalized academic orientation.

Technical Development

- Frontend: Built with Next.js, React and Tailwind CSS, with a responsive interface designed around a simple and accessible orientation experience.
- Knowledge Representation:Designed a semantic knowledge base using OWL, Turtle, TBox/ABox concepts, and structured relationships between educational entities.
- Semantic Data: Created and structured academic data using nodes, edges and ontology-based relationships, with SPARQL queries used to explore the knowledge graph.
- Malagasy Context: Integrated information adapted to the Malagasy educational system, including Malagasy Baccalaureate pathways and regional information.
- Deployment: Deployed the application on Vercel with a frontend-first architecture.

Features

- Academic Orientation:Helps users explore academic fields and educational pathways according to their profile.
- Knowledge Graph: Represents relationships between academic domains, institutions, regions and educational opportunities.
- Semantic Search: Uses structured semantic relationships to connect and retrieve relevant educational information.
- Malagasy Educational Data:Includes information adapted to the local educational context and Malagasy Baccalaureate system.
- Interactive Interface:Provides a modern and accessible interface for exploring orientation information.

My Role

I was responsible for the design and development of the application, from the frontend architecture and user experience to the structuring and integration of the knowledge graph. I also worked on the semantic representation of the educational domain, including the ontology, structured datasets and SPARQL-based exploration.

Highlights

- Live Demo: Try the application.
- Academic Project: Developed as part of my M2 studies in Electronics, Computer Systems and Artificial Intelligence at ISPM.
- AI & Semantic Technologies:Combines modern web development with ontology engineering, knowledge graphs and intelligent orientation.

Conclusion

OrientIA explores how semantic technologies and artificial intelligence can be applied to a real-world educational problem. The project demonstrates my ability to combine frontend engineering, structured data, knowledge representation and AI-oriented concepts into a complete application adapted to the Malagasy context.
